Our company is propelled by passionate, skilled professionals who work hard every day to make sure we stay on top of our game. We aim to provide a satisfying experience to our agents and customers that builds credibility, trust, and confidence.
We feel strongly about our monoline business model, and we want our agents and customers to experience the benefits of purchasing workers’ compensation as a single policy versus part of a multi-line package. Workers’ compensation is our primary focus, and nobody does it better.
About RAS and The Dakota Group®
Founded in 1989 to meet the insurance needs of an underserved market, RAS formed Dakota Truck Underwriters (DTU), a reciprocal insurance company, and in 1994 formed another insurance company, First Dakota Indemnity Company (FDI). DTU and FDI are also known as The Dakota Group.
Over the course of the past 30+ years, RAS and The Dakota Group have grown to become a leading regional provider of workers’ compensation services. The Dakota Group is the largest voluntary writer of workers’ compensation in the state of South Dakota. It ranks among the top aggregate writers of workers’ compensation in its most tenured states of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.
Despite fluctuations in market conditions, The Dakota Group has successfully maintained its market share and earned a high reputation for service and performance, achieving an AM Best Financial Strength Rating of “A,” an Issuer Credit Rating of “a,” and a Financial Size Category VIII with surplus over $100M. The ratings reflect our balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as strongest, as well as our strong operating performance, limited business profile, and appropriate enterprise risk management.
RAS has been named to Ward’s Top 50 performing insurance companies annually since 2020.This recognition underscores RAS’s financial stability and operational excellence in the insurance industry.
